History
Since the original episodes that aired in 2002 had been edited linearly on VHS and were never digitized, fans never had a chance to watch any of them during re-runs. By 2004, the original episodes were believed to have been lost, because the VHS labeled "Ni-Ki-Oh! Episodes" had been recorded over with Yu-Gi-Oh! episodes. Hence, the DVD received its name.
The episodes were thus completely re-edited for the DVD release and featured a fresh look at the first season. The DVD version added music, sound effects, and special effects, none of which were present in the original edits.
The entire collection was available for digital download in MKV format from the Cracked Egg Studios web site between June 8, 2006 and when the Downloads became defunct in 2008.
