The VaultWiki Era began in late 2008 and continued into 2020. It was preceded by the Web Site Era and followed by the Restoration Era.
The VaultWiki Era began several months after the studio scrapped third-party software it was using to provide The Vault, its web site's wiki feature, and developed an inhouse solution that became the aptly named VaultWiki, and after other customers from the old vendor requested that Cracked Egg Studios release their software as a product -- rather, when that product became the main focus of development some time in September 2008.
VaultWiki remained the primary focus of studio development time throughout the era, with very view videos, games, or other media being released. In summer 2009, Cracked Egg Studios attempted to shift focus back with EggCon 2009, but most promises failed to come to fruition as they competed for several years for development time against VaultWiki, which was coming into its own as a successful software offering. In 2010, VaultWiki branched off onto its own web site, effectively killing the Cracked Egg Studios web site, as no substantial content updates were made thereafter.
From 2012-2014, VaultWiki was pushed to the brink, as were other projects that were indefinitely delayed due to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy.
From 2015 onward, Ted Phillips tried for years with various product updates to bring VaultWiki back to its former glory, but in summer 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, decided it was finally time to shift focus again, with VaultWiki changes again chosen and scheduled for the benefit of the Cracked Egg Studios web site, rather than in any attempt to attract or maintain licensees. This decision went into effect during Q4 2020 and kicked off the Restoration Era.
