CES Download Forums

CES Download Forums was a planned vBulletin software plugin to be developed by Cracked Egg Studios in 2007. It was announced on January 31, 2007, at nuhit.com, and February 6, 2007, at vbulletin.org, but no progress is known to have been made towards its release.

CES Download Forums would have provided the following features:

  • A directory for downloadable content through the forum system
  • Support BB-Code syntax in file descriptions
  • Support uploading and downloading very large file sizes
  • Include a torrent tracker for decentralized file distribution

The plugin's features were based on various customizations Cracked Egg Studios had cobbled together for CES Downloads over the prior year, but within one software package where the company could control ongoing updates and support.

A number of factors contributed to the lack of development effort on this plugin. During 2007, Cracked Egg Studios was continuously developing other software plugins, many of which, such as CES Site News, were probably considered by the studio to be more important for continued operation of the web site. At the same time, Crackipedia was still in its infancy, with the studio making a big push to populate it throughout that year. It is likely that the studio considered that The Vault could alternatively become a suitable home for downloadable content.

By the time that Cracked Egg Studios was presented with the decision to develop the new product CES VaultWiki in early 2008, the release of vBulletin 3.7, which included photo albums by default, was imminent. By April 2008, the studio had decided, rather than letting visitors download old media content, it would have them stream the content from The Vault, using EggPlayer.

Cracked Egg Studios eventually added support for very large uploads and downloads to the VaultWiki 4.2.x series in 2020.
