The Technological Era began in late 1996 and lasted until 1998. It was preceded by the First Live Action Era and followed by the 3D Movie Maker Era.

While various productions were created during the Technological Era, they did not necessarily tend to a particular medium or theme. Rather, the Technological Era is notable because it spans the period when Ted Phillips and Nick Phillips began to be exposed to more modern technologies, such as the typewriter, Fr. Marks's Computer, and John Phillips's IBM Computer, and when they began to investigate how such technologies could be used for creative works.

At first, they tended to use both machines for printed works. But as John Phillips became interested in his own computer, he purchased books and software related to computer animation, to software programming, and to web development. Ted Phillips also read these materials and spent some time using what he learned to attempt to write video games using Visual Basic. As this failed, Bill Como introduced Ted to another programming language called BASIC.

Ted and Nick would use BASIC to develop software, games, and even a full operating system called Teddy 97, until 2001 when they moved on to RPG Maker for game development.

In early 1998, Ted began using HTML to write his first website, arguably the first version of the Cracked Egg Studios web site, called Ted's Fun Site.

Ted and Nick were using John Phillips's IBM Computer so frequently that by 1998, he had all but lost the ability to use it himself. Thus, he purchased a second machine for them to use instead. This machine came with a trial copy of Microsoft 3D Movie Maker, sparking the 3D Movie Maker Era.
