Meeting #1 took place on Sunday, May 9, 1999, on the street in front of 35-D Edgewater Park. Its purpose was the Initial Election, resulting in Theodore Phillips as the first president.
Called
The first club was predestined by the text of the Constitution, which set the date for the first election. This was so that the club would have a legal president chosen fairly according to the agreed-upon rules of the Constitution.
Preparation
Prior to the meeting, the election was being prepared. Three candidates were chosen by nomination: Teddy Phillips, Thomas D'attore, and Danny Hostomsky. However, Thomas D'attore quit during late April because his mother did not want him belonging to a club. She felt that clubs were synonymous to gangs. However, the other two candidates remained in the election and wrote their campaign speeches on April 29.
The Speeches
This was Teddy Phillips's campaign speech:
The following was Danny Hostomsky's speech:
''Fellow club members,''
''I Teddy Phillips promise you that if I am elected president of you fine people, I will personally see to it that everything I mention will happen.''
''1. Crime will be done away with.''
''2. Everyone will be treated fairly.''
''3. Everything mention in the documents will come into practice.''
''4. Each person who votes for me will get 10% of my salary each week.'' [This promise was later abandoned; there were no salaries and it was a secret ballot.]
''5. The ancient macaroni kids will be persecuted for what they do to us.''
''6. I will help each citizen when they need it, and if possible, will accept invitations into different things.''
''7. No one will be able to be rough (unless pretending to be someone or something).'' [This alluded to an incident in the Phillip D. Engeldrum Club in which members were playing charades and Teddy was imitating a velociraptor. Nicholas Phillips, outside, saw this as rough behavior and attempted to rectify the situation by pulling Teddy out of the clubhouse through a six-inches-square hole.]
''8. Anyone with an "F" in their name will become vice president.'' [This meant Richard Falantano.]
''In addition, I will also do the following:''
''1. Put together entertaining shows.''
''2. Ban smoking and counterfeiting.''
