Edgewater Park, also called the Park of Edgewater, Edgewater Park Owners' Co-operative, or simply Edgewater, is a sub-neighborhood located in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx in New York City. It is bounded noninclusively on the north and east by Eastchester Bay, on the west by Memorial Park and the Throgs Neck Expressway, and on the south by Miles Avenue. The majority of club history takes place in Edgewater Park, and most of its members have lived there.

History of Edgewater Park

The Siwanoys originally used the shoreline as a fishing camp. Over the years, the land was owned by many different people, including Edward Stephenson in 1792, until in 1851 George Townsend Adee (180?1884, for whom Adee Drive is named) bought it from Edward LeRoy for $20,000. Adee built a mansion in 1856 for his sons and his wife, Ellen Louise Henry, who named the estate "Edgewater." In 1910, the Adee family sold the land to Richard Shaw, who "ran a stock farm there, and rented out camping sites for Summertime vacationers, using the name 'Park of Edgewater' to make it sound attractive. The tents were replaced by bungalows, and, in time, these flimsy dwellings were built into year-round residences" (McNamara 16, 195).

Management of Edgewater Park

Edgewater Park, as a cooperatively owned village, is run by an amorphous board of directors (elected by and consisting of residents), referred to by the populace as simply "The Co-op." There are annual Labor Day competitions and a volunteer fire department. The park also has security during the summer. Someone please edit this part of the article and make it better.

Layout of Edgewater Park

Edgewater Park on 40 acres of land contains about 700 houses, around 95% of which are occupied. The park is divided into five sections denoted by letters, and houses within a section have numbers. An address includes a house number, the section's letter, and the name "Edgewater Park" (instead of streets, which are not officially named).
