  2. The club

This article is about the club itself. For the secret project, see The Club (project).

The club is a term referring to what is presently the Free United Club of Kids.

Definition

In Niki Moto's "Study Guide" for the initiation test, he wrote:
Any reference to "the club" means this one, under any name. "The club" does not include any side clubs members may have participated in, such as the Edgewater Defenders Club or the Jack Slater Kids, or pre-FBDC clubs such as the Phillip D. Engeldrum Club.

Origins

The club's history has been filled with debate over its identity and how much control it should have over its members' lives, if any at all.

The club had its origins in earlier attempts at clubs and a secret project by the three prominent men. It was born from the desires of a group of young residents of Edgewater Park to belong to a group with its own clubhouse. For about two years, there were many expeditions to gather materials for the construction of a clubhouse that was never built. A few months after the selection of the name Fire-Breathing Dragons Club and the declaration of Block War II, Teddy Phillips wrote the Constitution, officially establishing the club as a political entity.

What is the club?

"The club" refers to the entity governed by the Constitution, which contains the earliest recorded use of the name "the club" to refer to the club. Even though it has changed names, it retained its identity as the same club.

What exactly the club is has been a matter of debate. "The club" (like the name of any nation) could refer to the members, the government, the law, the military, the clubhouse, or the culture. The club's primary function has also been uncertain, because it has ranged from a mere abstraction to a hub for activities to an overbearing responsibility. At various points in its history, it has focused on various points: its social structure, its economics, its activities, and its politics.
