The Night Before Christmas

The Night Before Christmas was the first Christmas short produced by Ted Phillips with T.J.'s Cracked Egg Pictures. It was recorded on VHS-C format media on the old camera in early May 1996, but was not edited or released to the public until August 27, 2009.

Synopsis

Santa Claus is drives his sleigh to a young girl's home to deliver presents. While Santa unloads the presents on the roof, a disgruntled elf assaults him, tearing the beard from his face. Santa subdues the elf by throwing him off the roof. The two let bygones be bygones and present the gifts to the young girl.

History

For many years, scholars believed that The Night Before Christmas was produced in the fall of 1995. However, several decorations and costume choices seemed to suggest that it occurred in warmer months. Due to Clare Phillips's young age and the fact that it was recorded after Ghost of The, the summer of 1995 had to be ruled out as a possibility.

On August 26, 2009, forensic investigations revealed a date on the title card of the short. Although the rest is almost entirely illegible, the bottom left contains the word "May", followed by the number 5, 6, or 8. The suggests strongly that The Night Before Christmas was recorded in May 1996, which challenged previous assertions that 1996 was an unproductive year. As a result of this find, the date of Rising of Evil Spirits was also moved to 1996.
