  2. Meeting #8

Meeting #8 took place on Saturday, October 13, 2001 at 35-D Edgewater Park and resulted in Amendment IV.

Background

When Nick Phillips ran for president for the summer of 2001, he had promised that, if elected, he would pass a law prohibiting animal cruelty. So, a few months later, he wrote the law as an amendment added to the end of the Constitution, assuming that his election meant passing of the law. However, Kathy and Ted Phillips told him otherwise, that people may have voted for him for another reason and not because they wanted the law. They would have to vote again for the passing of the law to take place.

Scheduled

So, Nick decided to call another meeting. On October 11, 2001, he announced in his newsletter that on Saturday, October 13, there would be "a meeting to submit complaints and propose new laws."

The Meeting

And so, the meeting took place in the living room at 35-D Edgewater Park, with approximately three members present. Before and during the meeting, Ted Phillips and Rich Falantano were playing an SNES video game of the Super Mario series.

Nick proposed the law against animal cruelty, fulfilling the promise made in his campaign speech. It passed and survives now on the Constitution as Section 1 of Amendment IV.

Nick had also noticed that merchants were paid $50 a month, although they should have already been making money from selling things. So, he proposed that the salary for merchants be lowered. The result was that the salary became $20 (plus sales).
