Meeting #12 was a club meeting that took place on Saturday, January 12, 2002 at 35-D Edgewater Park. It resulted in Amendment VI and in Richard Falantano's position as the first treasurer.

Background

The club's economy was a failure. No one paid the income tax, even though every newsletter gave a list of members who failed to pay. No one would even use their celbos as exchange for goods and services. The celbos themselves were largely unbacked, and many were unaccounted for, making a celbo worth US$.0043. A tribunal, consisting of Ted, Nick, and Kathy Phillips, would commonly convene to discuss the club economy. Kathy Phillips suggested that they void all currency, collect mandatory membership dues of one dollar from each member, elect a treasurer who has no other government job, and use the membership dues to back new currency. This dictatorial action was probably the only thing that they thought could have rescued the artificial and centrally planned club economy; free market solutions were unforeseeable, since the members participated in a beneficial underground economy using U.S. currency and thus evaded club taxation.

The Meeting

The dictatorship of three chose Saturday, January 12 as the date for the next meeting. This had not been announced in the newsletter, so on the morning of the twelfth Nick Phillips sent out an "urgent bulletin" to all club members announcing the meeting that would take place that day.

There were five members present. At the meeting, Ted and Nick Phillips announced the new changes to the economy. No members objected. Then was the treasurer nomination, resulting in Nick Phillips and Rich Falantano as candidates. Ted expressed concern that if Nick won, he would have to give up his current job as secretary. There were two votes for Nick and three for Rich (whom Ted called "Richolas Falanillips" on his ballot to make his vote ambiguous).

Since Rich won the election, he became the treasurer. Ted and Nick Phillips thoroughly explained to him the responsibilities of being treasurer (which basically were just keeping the treasury safe). Rich understood and accepted them, so Nick handed over the treasury to him.

It seemed that the Economic Breakdown was over. Now all that needed to happen for everyone to pay the one-dollar membership fee and for the government to print new currency. How long would that take?
