VaultWiki Lite was a web-based wiki software developed by Cracked Egg Studios, that integrated into vBulletin and XenForo forum software. It was released August 29, 2008, at vbulletin.org, and discontinued in 2018.
VaultWiki Lite, which was available for free, was based on the paid VaultWiki product's Standard tier, from version 2.0.x through 3.0.11 in VaultWiki 3.x (which had 3.0.21 as its last version), and until 4.0.21 in VaultWiki 4.0.x (which had 4.0.28 as its last version). The Lite software was a stripped down version of the paid tier, with many desirable features removed and embedded advertisements to encourage users to update to a paid subscription.
During the early years of VaultWiki, VaultWiki Lite was one of the main drivers of new paid VaultWiki license subscriptions. However, it quickly became cumbersome for developers to maintain the various code branches of Lite, Standard, and Premium without introducing bugs by stripping out code blocks in the lower tiers, especially as developers used an extremely primitive custom version control system until 2014.
When it became clear that VaultWiki Lite was no longer driving a significant number of new installs, it was phased out with fewer and fewer updates, until finally the discovery of several security vulnerabilities led to the product being discontinued in 2018.
